Adelaide Screenwriter: Screenwriter "Communities"

Adelaide Screenwriter: Screenwriter Online "Communities"

Screenwriter Online "Communities"

Screenwriting is a lonely business, and it helps to have friends who want to write screenplays, friends with whom you can discuss things.
It?s important to find a group of like-minded people who are on the same wavelength, who wanna write screenplays as badly as you do, who aren?t selfish, who support you. If you?re sinking or you?re drowning, it?s nice to have someone else in the boat. ? Shane Black
The internet is a wonderful device for linking up those like-minded people wherever they are around the planet. Back in 1998, Francis Ford Coppola established a website for writers, which quickly became the focus of an enthusiastic community. In 2000 he converted the website into something he calls the Zoetrope Virtual Studio.
"The Virtual Studio is a submission destination and collaboration tool for filmmakers?a community where artists can meet, polish their craft, and perhaps get their stories published, their screenplays produced, their music heard by a wide audience."
In 2002, Kevin Spacey started another online writer community, Trigger Street. It's a place where you can have other writers critique your screenplay, once you pass the Review and Credit Process.
"Trigger Street Labs provides a platform for exposure and discovery. No matter if you're an aspiring filmmaker or writer, established professional already in the business, or just an enthusiast with an interest in film and story, there is most likely something here for you."
Then, in 2010, Ben Cahan started yet another writer community. This one is called Talentville. Once again, it is a place where you can have other writers critique your screenplay, once you pass their test.
"The method of getting your work noticed is by receiving reviews from the other Residents as well as Industry folks we will get involved as time goes along. That is done via our Review and Rating system. However, just uploading your script does not necessarily mean anyone is going to read it. ... Before you can get your own script reviewed, rated and ultimately ranked, you are going to have to do a bit of work to earn the bucks that you will then spend to have others review your work."
Now, in 2012, Franklin Leonard of The Black List has announced that it will host screenplays by amateurs, right alongside those by respected professionals... for a fee. This is a straight deal. Money for potential exposure to genuine industry professionals who are actively looking for a gem among the mountains of dross. No more loitering while you read other poorly written scripts, and an assurance that the person reading your script actually knows something about the business.
"... anyone who has written a screenplay to pay $25 a month to have their script hosted and indexed as part of our database. For a writer?s $25 a month, we make their script available to our industry professional membership so that they may download it, rate it, and contact writers directly if they so choose. All of these reads are 100% free. ... Writers can also pay an additional $50 per read to have their script read by readers we have hired who have expressed a specific interest in the genre that they are evaluating. "
So, which one is 'best'? I think that depends on your personality, your emotional needs, and what stage you're up to in your screenwriting career. This much I do know: the higher the caliber of the person reading your screenplay, the faster you're going to improve.

PFT: MRI clears Tannehill, but QB is hurting

St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford lies on the field during the second quarter of the NFL football game against the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in LondonReuters

Rams coach Jeff Fisher, who has lost to Bill Belichick by a combined score of 104-7 in their last two meetings, addressed the media on Tuesday, touching on a variety of topics.

On the question of whether multiple pass interference penalties against St. Louis cornerback Bradley Fletcher were justified, Fisher was surprisingly candid.

?He?s grabbing,? Fisher said. ?He grabbed. When you grab and the ball?s in the air, it?s pass interference. When you grab and the ball?s not in the air, it?s defensive holding. So, in each case, there was hand contact. Sometimes those aren?t called, but I can see what they saw and why they called them.?

Fisher then took a right turn while answering the question, offering up criticism of some calls that went against the Rams.

?I did think that we had a potential offensive pass interference on the ball in the end zone,? Fisher said. ?I was a little disappointed ? they also missed three roughing the passer calls on our quarterback. Those are 15-yard penalties and they keep drives alive. But, as I said, it?s a difficult game to officiate and they?re not going to see everything, but I?d like to have seen [referee Walt Coleman] do a better job of protecting our quarterback.?

Fisher pointed to three specific non-roughing calls ? a hit from Pats linebacker Dont?a Hightower on quarterback Sam Bradford, and then two more occasions on which Bradford was ?hit in the face.?

There?s a chance Fisher will be hit in the wallet. The rules in this regard aren?t always clear.? Just like the rules regarding roughing the passer.

So, I Got A Tattoo For My Birthday | The Yolanda Adams Morning ...

It?s true. For my 38th birthday, I got the green light to get a tattoo.

I?ve always wanted one.? My family knew I wanted one, but they never really said it would be okay with them. But this year?my daughter really championed the idea. She thought it was finally time.? As it turns out, this was the green light I was waiting for.

Step 1. What to get.

When I first told my friends & family about my tattoo, I would get the same response, ?What comic book character is it going to be??. Am I really?THAT transparent? Do I wear my comic-loving heart on my sleeve? Yes, yes I do.

I went back & forth for many moons, before I decided on the Iron Fist logo.

Iron Fist is a martial arts hero, that represents and stands up for the common folk.

He?s a rich man, donates to charity regularly, and is best friends with Luke Cage.

You can read more about Iron Fist here.

Step 2: Find A Good Tattoo Parlor/Artist

I started looking for places that were somewhat convenient to my house. I made a mental note of each one.? Then, I started asking around. One name that kept popping up was Mark Anthony. I found out he likes comics, just like me. I went to his website, and he?s a true artist. I scheduled a meeting with him and we got to know each other. I was genuinely interested in his opinions on comics, movies, and tattoo art. Long story short, I found my artist and made an appointment at Studio 8 in Houston. Very clean and very professional.

Step 3: Let?s Do This!!

Two weeks later, I went in for my appointment. I admit, I had second thoughts?but I wanted this, and everyone knew I wanted it. I sucked it up and pulled up my sleeve.

Once Mark resized & printed out the image, he made a template. This is kind of like a temporary tattoo that kids play with.

He wets the shoulder, places the template where it needs to go, and we see if it needs to be centered, resized, or reconsidered.

Looks good so far!

Now, it?s time to make it permanent.

Here, you can see the outline that he begins with.

Once it?s outlined, he shades in the dragon.

This process didn?t take long at all. Mark even put a movie on for me while he was working.

And a short time later?

I ended up with?

?

THIS!!

I love it!

I?d like to add a green glowing/flame effect to it.

Mark had a great idea and did a draft for me (in marker, on my shoulder).

So, I?m going to walk around and ponder what I want for a while.

Now, what you may have noticed is that Iron Fist has this logo on his chest. I like him, but I don?t like him that much.

One thing I wasn?t expecting, was the lack of pain. I always thought getting a tattoo would hurt. It didn?t. Granted, I got my tattoo on a real?meaty part of my arm. I?m sure there are some extra sensitive parts, that could hurt, but mine didn?t.

Also, my experience was very pleasant. I was surrounded by good folks, that knew their craft.

I?m so happy.

-Jay

Miser Mom: Hurri-came, Hurri-goes

Monday: ?a day spent in anticipation of a Super Storm. ?Early in the day, at least in my area, it was just a bunch of rain, hardly different than other rainfalls. ?I ventured out to the doctors to pick up prescriptions and then meds for my sons -- we'll won't need the meds until Thursday, but I figured I ought to get them before the storm.
Note to my bicycle-rider-wannabe, car-driver-wanna-not-be Self: ?If I just plan a few days more in advance, I can get the docs to mail?me the prescriptions, saving me either a 6-mile bike ride or a 6-mile car drive. ?Plus, in the case of a hurricane, I wouldn't have to decide between(a) venturing out or (b) fretting over running out of our anti-hyper pills while sealed up in a home with two hyper teenagers.
After the meds were safely put into the closet, I spent much of the rest of the day sealed up in my sewing room/home office, playing a lovely, leisurely game of catch-up. ?I'm sure many of my students, colleagues, and friends were doing the same. ?We all declared a giant Time Out in our game of Telephone Tag. ?Classes canceled. ?School suspended. ?Hurriedness on hold. It was, as I wrote this time last year, a gift of obstruction.
Word of the day: ?"hunker". ?I heard it from so many reporters and well-wishers and e-friends, that I started fantasizing about directional hunkering. ?Why is it always "down"? ?Couldn't I hunker up? ?Hunker out? ?Hunker around??
Late in the day, after we ate some of the food that we just happened to have lying around the home, the power went out. ?For how long? ?We didn't know (then). ?We pulled out candles and reassured J-son, who was a little weirded out. ?I'd already stuffed the fridge with gallons and gallons of water, and turned it to its coldest setting, in anticipation of going 5 days without power.
Miser Mom Fantasy of the week: a chest refrigerator. ?I've often toyed with the idea of just getting rid of the fridge altogether, of course. ?It is entirely because of sucking up to my husband and K-daughter that I haven't ditched it. ?But check out this post from "A self-sufficient life", or this one from Mt Best, or this one from Energy Conservation News. ?They all converted a chest freezer to a chest refrigerator and now use 1/8th to 1/10th the energy they used to. ?Plus, if the power goes out during a hurricane, the chest set-up keeps food cold longer, even if you open the door. ?(My neighbor did this experiment the wrong way a few years ago; she accidentally left the lid on her chest freezer open for a week. ?The freezer certainly used more power that way, but all the food was still frozen when she finally discovered her mistake).?
The power came back on an hour or so later, while we were at a friend's home, playing card games by candlelight. ?While other people had dashed out to the grocery store to stock up before the storm, our stocking had mostly been done during the August harvests, and both our houses instead did baking in anticipation of the storm. ?I have two loaves of bread sitting on the counter; my friend's daughter had made cup-cakes. ?Hence, we went to her house.

The worst of Sandy arrived in our area after midnight. ?Howling winds. ?More rain. ?But, since you're reading this, you can see the storm passed over without knocking us out again. ?We'll have to wait until noon for the last of the dangerous winds to leave the area. ?So this morning, we'll continue to hunker down; but this afternoon, I think I'll hunker out-and-about instead.

Increasing Resting Heart Rate Can Kill You | Wellness Report

Your ?resting heart rate? can give you a good determination of how physically fit you are. The lower the heart rate, the greater the fitness. Typically, your resting heart rate (how fast your heart beats just before you get out of bed in the morning) should be below 70 beats per minute (bpm). People that are in exceptional condition have been known to have resting heart rates below 40bpm.

If you aren?t careful, your resting heart rate can creep up over time. A recent study found that people whose resting heart rate goes from less than 70bpm to over 85bpm increased their risk of dying from ischemic heart disease to almost double. Almost the same increase in risk of ischemic heart disease occurred for those whose resting heart rates went from between 70bpm and 85bpm to over 85bpm.

This is one of the reasons you want to include cardio exercise in your weekly fitness regime. Consistent cardio exercise a few times a week keeps your resting heart rate low. This is especially true as you get older and are tempted to be more sedentary.

NASA satellites capture Hurricane Sandy's massive size

ScienceDaily (Oct. 30, 2012) ? NASA's Aqua satellite captured a visible image Sandy's massive circulation. Sandy covers 1.8 million square miles, from the Mid-Atlantic to the Ohio Valley, into Canada and New England.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured a visible image Sandy's massive circulation on Oct. 29 at 18:20 UTC (2:20 p.m. EDT). Sandy covered 1.8 million square miles, from the Mid-Atlantic to the Ohio Valley, into Canada and New England. Sandy made landfall hours after the MODIS image was taken.

Sandy Was Still a Hurricane After Landfall

On Oct. 29, 2012 at 11 p.m. EDT, the center of Hurricane Sandy was just 10 miles (15 km) southwest of Philadelphia, Penn., near 39.8 North and 75.4 West. Sandy was still a hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 75 mph (120 kph) and moving northwest at 18 mph (30 kph). Sandy's minimum central pressure had risen to 952 millibars. The hurricane-force-winds extended 90 miles (150 km) east of the center of circulation. Tropical-storm-force winds, however, went much further, as far as 485 miles (780 km).

NASA's GOES Project created a "full-disk view" of NOAA's GOES satellite data, that captured a global view of Hurricane Sandy's birth to landfall. The animation of NOAA's GOES-13 and GOES-15 satellite observations were combined from Oct. 21-30, 2012 and showed the birth of Tropical Storm Sandy in the Caribbean Sea, the intensification and movement of Sandy in the Atlantic Ocean along the U.S. East Coast, and Hurricane Sandy make landfall in N.J. on Oct. 29 and move inland to Penn.

Sandy's Inland Movement on Oct. 29

At 2 a.m. EDT, on Oct. 29, Sandy's center was located just south of Lancaster, Penn. At 5 a.m. EDT, Sandy continued moving to the west-northwest at 15 knots (24 kph) and was located just 15 miles (24 km) east of York, Penn., and 90 miles (145 km) west of Philadelphia. Sandy was centered near 40.5 North and 77.0 West. Sandy's minimum central pressure continues to rise and was 960 millibars.

Sandy's sustained winds were near 65 mph. Tropical-storm-force winds extend almost 1,000 miles. According to Weather Channel, the winds are going to continue being a problem from the northeast into the Ohio Valley today. The strongest winds are being experienced now in the Great Lakes Region.

Widespread Damages

Hurricane Sandy has caused significant damage in New York City and along the Mid-Atlantic coast. Flooding has been reported from Maine to Va. During the morning hours on Oct. 29 (Eastern Daylight Time), nearly eight million people were without power this morning up and down the East coast. The Appalachian Mtns. received some heavy snow from western Md. down to Tenn. and N.C. As much as 26 inches of snow had fallen in Garrett County, Md. by the morning of Oct. 30. According to Reuters news, flooding along the U.S. East Coast was extensive.

Watches and Warnings in Effect on Oct. 29

According to the NOAA's Hydrometeorological Prediction Center (NOAA/HPC), there are high-wind warnings in effect including gale force winds over the coastal waters of the Mid-Atlantic States, New York and New England. Storm warnings are in effect for portions of the Mid-Atlantic coastal waters. Flood and flash flood watches and warnings are in effect over portions of the Mid-Atlantic and northeastern states.

NOAA's HPC forecast on Oct. 29 calls for Sandy to move in a "west-northwest motion with reduced forward speed is expected today into western Penn. with a turn north into western New York tonight, Oct. 30. The cyclone will move into Canada on Wed., Oct. 31. Steady weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours."

NOAA/HPC warns that gale-force winds will continue over parts of the Mid-Atlantic through New England on Oct. 29 and storm surge and tides can still cause normally dry areas along or near the coast to be flooded, especially during high tide.

Rain and Snowfall Forecasts from NOAA

NOAA/HPC forecasts large rainfall totals for many areas in Sandy's reach. Far northeastern N.C. could expect 3 to 6 inches, while 4 to 8 inches more are possible over the Mid-Atlantic States on Oct. 30. Both areas can see isolated higher totals. Between 1 and 3 inches are possible with up to 5 inches in the southern tier of New York state and northeastward through New England.

Snowfall between 2 and 3 feet are expected in the W.Va. mountains with higher totals through Oct. 30. Snowfall of 1 to 2 feet in the southwestern Va. and Ky. Mountains are expected, and between 12 and 18 inches along the N.C. and Tenn. Border and in western Md.

Principles Of Stand-Up Wrestling ? Recreation and Sports ...

To be a superb wrestler, it is advisable to know the rules of stand-up wrestling. Principally, all of it begins on the feet. It?s good to know the proper positions. You want to be in the very best situation, so that you will be able to undertake the most environment friendly and effective wrestling postures. These are the positions or postures that you simply want as a way to defeat your opponent. By understanding these postures, you will be able to anticipate your opponent?s move and prepare for his attacks.

?On Your Ft?

Strictly speaking, being in your ft in wrestling would require you to have your elbows in, chin tucked, knees bent and lead leg forward. You could just remember to preserve your arms near your body. This will assist shield you in opposition to having your opponent grabbing onto your arms and taking management of the fight. At all times hold your arms close to your body. Don?t just allow them to dangle in your sides or your front. You should have your opponent work for it. Wait in your opponent to increase his arms with the intention to seize you. Inadvertently, it will leave him open to your attack. This is when you take the chance to attack him.

?Never Take Your Eyes off Your Opponent?

Rule of the thumb in relation to wrestling: Never Look Down! Don?t look at the floor. Wherever the top goes, the body follows. You must also avoid looking up as a result of this place exposes your throat. Stand-up wrestling requires quick thinking. It?s essential know the way to mess with your opponent?s head. An excellent wrestler will possible pull his opponent?s head in several instructions simply so to get a reaction out of his opponent. Having your head manipulated this way messes with a wrestler?s focus and stability. This is why it?s important that you?ve got a robust neck. This is the place neck workouts assist a lot.

?Saddle Your Opponent Your Weight?

Your opponent is your mule when you find yourself inside the ring. You should let him carry your weight. If you happen to weight 600 lbs, then saddle him with each pound. Remember that wrestling is about ?wrestling management? away out of your opponent. That you must be in control, so you would be capable of hook him. It?s good to anticipate his moves, in order that you will know the right way to respond. That is how you win against your opponent.

Dishonored

Deus Ex is the greatest PC game of all time. You might disagree, and if you do I forgive you, but there's a reason ION Storm's first-person conspiracy stealth role-playing game shooter routinely tops lists of the greatest PC games of all time. It combined so many different elements of genres into a single, compelling first-person experience with a fantastic story, and let players decide exactly how they want to play the game not just with moral choices, but strategic ones. You could be a stealthy assassin, a pacifist, a hacker, a commando, or any other type of character, and each role would have a way for you to play. Arkane Studios and Bethesda Softworks' Dishonored for the PC, Xbox 360?, and PlayStation 3? taps into the feeling and produces a compelling experience that lets you feel as brutal or subtle, malicious or passive as you want to be. Dishonored, available for $59.99 (list), feels like a spiritual successor to Deus Ex in the same way that Bioshock was a spiritual successor to System Shock (but without the shared development team; Warren Spector and the old ION Storm team had nothing to do with this game).

A Different London
Dishonored takes place in the city of Dunwall, a Victorian London-style capital of a Victorian England-style nation filled with fantastic, whale oil-powered technology that feels much more like a science fiction penny dreadful than the catch-all genre of "steampunk." A plague is spreading through the city, turning bystanders into monsters and rats into packs of man-eating street piranha. You play Corvo Attano, the Empress' bodyguard who returns to Dunwall after looking for aid for the city only to see the Empress killed before him. He's arrested for the crime and is scheduled to be executed, but he's broken out by loyalists to the Empress and her missing daughter who want to take down the brutal dictatorship that rose in her place. There's also a mysterious dark god who gives you magic powers and is very interested in your quest for revenge.

The game is first-person, but like Deus Ex it's not a run-and-gun shooter. Corvo is a powerful fighter with sword, pistol, and crossbow, and he only becomes more powerful as he upgrades his equipment and powers by collecting treasure and hidden runes and charms, but he's not invincible. With enough ammunition and preparation you can cut a swath through guards and decimate everyone in your path, but that's only one way to get through the game, and it has its own consequences. Corvo's powers and equipment let him sneak along rooftops, teleport short distances, and detect guards through walls, so you can sneak past enemies without letting them know you're there and without killing any of them. You can explore areas and find alternate routes with different dangers but fewer guards. You can even work with Dunwall's criminal underworld, performing favors for access to paths you couldn't find otherwise.

These paths all have obstacles that themselves offer different solutions, depending on your play style. If you want to knock a few guards out with sleeping darts, you can. If you want to teleport behind them and cut their throats, you can. If you want to set razor-filled land mines in guards' paths and watch them get shredded before using the distraction to get past them, you can. You can also rewire security systems to get past deadly walls of light, summon swarms of rats to eat people, stop time and kill everyone in the room before they see you, and summon blasts of wind to knock them through windows and off balconies. Each of these methods feel unique and satisfying, and no matter how you build up Corvo you'll feel unstoppable in some way. Dishonored lets you choose how to play through the entire game, then give you a half dozen other ways to play again to give you a new experience getting to the same objective.

Different Ways to Play
How you play affects the rest of the game, as well. Everyone you kill and every guard you alert adds to the chaos of the city, which makes it darker and more plague-filled. Depending on who you help or kill in missions, different paths will be available to you. The game takes place in discrete, connected zones for each mission and there's no open-world exploration outside, but it makes the story seem much more focused and rich than the excellent Elder Scrolls games. You aren't an adventurer and you're not looking through every cave and ruin at your leisure. You're an assassin who creeps through a city that considers you a traitor. It adds much more direction to the story, while giving you just enough room to stretch out and find different solutions.

Dishonored isn't perfect, though. The levels tend to feel a bit cramped despite their multiple paths, and while the transition from stealth to combat feels more organic than Deus Ex: Human Revolution, it isn't quite as seamless as the original Deus Ex. It's also very easy to rely on Dark Vision to see enemies around corners, which means your Dishonored experience will be just as monochrome and missing the visually impressive surroundings as Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Dishonored is a fantastic game that puts you in a playground of murder and stealth while still keeping focused on an interesting story in a rich and enthralling world. It's not quite as large, as open, or as well-written as Deus Ex, but it stands as a solid spiritual successor to one of the best PC games of all time. It's Bioshock to Deus Ex's System Shock 2, and it's worth a look no matter your favorite genre.

If you are like most business today, you are actively using social media to grow your business. And most businesses DON?T know how to properly use YouTube to grow their business? EASILY.

There is a small group of smart business owners that HAVE learned the secret to leveraging YouTube along with their other online marketing? and profited big time because of it!

As the author of a book on LinkedIn, and webinar marketing and contributing writer for Forbes.com and Entrepreneur.com, I?ve been successfully using social media sites like LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube for for years.

There is no question that social media has made thousands of corporate businesses, small businesses, entrepreneurs, authors, speakers, freelancers and more? Millions and Millions of dollars. He always sees the "big picture" and can help one develop creative concepts to help a customer achieve their end goal as it relates to telling their story in order to provide greater brand awareness which leads to new business."

"James! Your training is excellent! THe information was well-presented, immediately useful and extremely valuable to anyone who wants to maximize the potential of YouTube. I am certain many of our clients will be candidates for your program. I thought you did a great job of explaining, in a short period of time, information that can be used right now to generate exposure. I will highly recommend it to friends and clients alike."

"From start to finish James helped take my ideas and transformed them into financial success. His expertise in video and marketing has helped me develop, position and market my idea into a stellar product and has been a complete pleasure. His attention to detail, cutting edge ideas and fast implementation was easy and enjoyable.

Thanks James, for holding my hand every step of the way and showing me how to make my product? Read more?

Sunday musings and affirmations 10-28-12 | Martina McGowan

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

?

?

?

?A? man?s worth is no greater than his ambitions.? Marcus? Aurelius???

?

Affirmation:?I combat de-motivation or lack of motivation with belief in my worth.

?

?I believe in myself. I am confident that I can rise above challenging circumstances because I have what it takes to do this.

My spiritual connection is strong and it fortifies?my strength whenever I feel a greater need for it.

When things happen that threaten to destroy my motivation or?make me question my attributes, I remind myself that negative forces exist to try and keep me down.

However, I know that I am worthy, and no external force can change that belief.

When someone indicates some displeasure with my work, I can admit to myself that it is easy to lose hope.

But then I remind myself of my value.

I know that I have it within me to overcome the challenges trying to hold me back.

So I push a little harder and complete the task at hand with excellence.

Today, I accept the challenge of believing in myself in every situation.

I look within to find the strength to motivate myself to keep going, especially after disappointment.

I know that failure has absolutely nothing to do with defining my worth.

In fact, such obstacles help me to recognize just how strong, capable and worthy I really am.?

?

Homework -?Self-Reflective Questions:?

1. What steps can I take to build my self-confidence?

2. Do I look to the support of family and friends to encourage me to persevere?

3. How do I feel when I am successful after convincing myself to keep going?

?

Note- This is a short term experiment that started 10-21-12.

My current plan is to do this every Sunday in preparation for our week ahead. But I need for you to do four things for me.

1. Read the affirmation and statement aloud to yourself.

2. Write out your answers to the self-reflective questions. You don?t have to share them if you don?t want to, but write them down for your own benefit and boost.

3. Subscribe. If we continue this series, the only way you will get it on a regular basis is to subscribe.

4. Comment. I don?t usually press for comments. However,?as I continue to consider adding this as a regular feature to the blog, I am asking for feedback. If you liked it, or didn?t. If you see ways that I can tweak it to make it better. If you found the exercise helpful or not. If you had some kind of breakthrough, epiphany or wake up call. If you?d rather get this as a newsletter on a monthly basis. Anything?

Here?s the bottom line for this experimental feature. Because it will take a little extra time to get these ready, no comments or feedback, no musings. Ok?
