HARTFORD, Conn. ? Former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays says he's finished up his final obligations in Washington, D.C., and he's coming home to Connecticut to campaign full-time for U.S. Senate.
Shays told The Associated Press on Wednesday he has filed the necessary paperwork to run as a Republican candidate for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman.
Shays' main rival for the GOP nomination is former professional wrestling executive Linda McMahon. But unlike her, Shays did not plan a big event to officially announce his entrance into the race. This week, he concluded his work as an appointee to the Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Shays said he's been campaigning part-time and can now switch to full-time.
